Girl Wash Your Face … With Oil

April 8, 2019

Beautiful skin requires commitment, not a miracle – Erno Laszlo

Welcome to my TRUTHBOMB series, installment #1.

This post is named in honor of the book Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis. Number ONE … it’s a cute, catchy title and I like it. Number TWO … it’s a way to shout out a entrepreneur boss babe I seriously admire and plug my FAV skin care routine all at the same time. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy especially if you’re into being a boss, breaking the mold, stepping into your own glory and making your dreams come true.

So, for those of you who follow my blog, you know that I’m a huge fan of a solid skin care routine and quality skin care products. I’ve got everything from foaming cleanser to oil cleanser, rose water to skin tonic, store bought to homemade products, serums to eye creams and even an mask I sleep in overnight. HONEY, I’ve seen it all and tried it all. A few years ago I began to noticed that my skin was getting substantially drier the older I got no matter what I did. I mean I wear sunscreen, I drink tons of water, I take good care of my skin . . . I didn’t know what was going on. I started experimenting with new make up and new skin care products as my skin was seriously THIRSTY. In my time of need I turned to my sister, a licensed esthetician and fellow boss lady who also makes her own amazing skin products. (FYI you can follow her on InstaGram @theskincarechef83 for tips and hints). She immediately recommended OIL CLEANSING … SAY WHAT ??? That was my first response too. I seriously thought this was one of the craziest things I ever heard, much like you may be thinking right now. I thought for sure I would wake up with clogged pores and blemishes everywhere, but lo and behold my skin felt more hydrated, silky, smooth, and calm. That’s right…I washed my face with oil and it was a game changer so I’m here to share my two cents with you. Not only can this new cleansing method save you money, it will also literally save your skin.

If you’re unfamiliar, the oil cleaning process, see my step by step directions below …

What you’ll need: Cleansing Oil of choice, warm/hot running water, soft wash cloth

Step #1 – Pour a generous amount of oil into the palm of your hand
Step #2 – Rub your hands together to warm the oil
Step # 3 – Massage the oil all over your face, this is an amazing way to remove makeup, impurities, dirt, oil build up and even mascara and eyeliner, including anything waterproof (close your eyes of course when massaging over your eyes)
Step #4 – Once you are satisfied with the cleansing wet your wash cloth and begin to gently wipe your skin and eyes clean
Step # 5 – Apply any serums, moisturizes, spf etc … and your good to go

After 1st mentioning oil cleansing several posts ago, I have had a few friends reach out for product and brand recommendations and even eye makeup remover recommendations, so please know I’m here to share alllllllllll my beauty secrets and plenty of TRUTH BOMBS about misinformation and misconceptions that may exists around the beauty world.

Question and Answer

So I just rub olive oil from my kitchen all of my face?
TRUTH BOMB Simple answer is yes. The oil cleansing method or “OCM” is based on a basic chemistry rule that oil dissolves oil. It is one of the purest most effective ways to cleanse you skin and it works for all skin types. When oil cleansing you can want to choose a pure, organic, cold pressed oil. Some choices include: Olive, Grapeseed, Almond, Argan, Hemp, Jojoba, Coconut, Avocado Oil.

Anti Aging: Avocado Oil, Argan Oil
Acne Prone: Hemp Seed Oil, Castor Oil mixed with Olive Oil
Sensitive: Jojoba, Avocado
Dry: Avocado, Olive Oil, Almond, Grapeseed

But I wear makeup, can I still oil cleanse?
TRUTH BOMB You are the perfect person to oil cleanse. Oil cleansing is quite possibly the purest method to cleanse and the most gentle way to break down and remove makeup along with other impurities that build up throughout the day. I am in love with Dermalogica’s Pre Cleanse ($89 Amazon) and I start my oil cleansing routine with this oil based make up remover. A few others to check out depending on your budget would be Garnier SkinActive ($6.50 Amazon) or Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil ($7 Amazon) After rinsing my skin I then follow up with Majestic Pure Sweet Almond Oil ($14.99 Amazon) Seriously those prices are legit !!!

Will it work just as well as the expensive products?
TRUTH BOMB It might even work better. I’ve always told my make up clients that just because something is expensive doesn’t means it’s better or even good for that matter. One of the best things about oil cleansing it how budget friendly it is. You too can have beautiful glowing skin without breaking the bank. Ignore the price tag, give it a try. I am currently using Radha Beauty Argan Oil ($13.95 Amazon) as my after cleanse moisturizer in place of a fancy, expensive night cream and I’m obsessed. My skin looks great and feels great. BTW Argan oil has the highest level of fatty acids, as far as oils go, so if anti aging is something that matters to you this oil will keep your skin tight, plump, silky smooth and hydrated so those pesky fine lines and wrinkles don’t stand a chance.

Is it possible to do it wrong?
TRUTH BOMB Heck No. I personally oil cleanse daily as I have very dry, dehydrated skin. Regardless of skin type I think once daily, in the evening before bed, is a great place to start. My bestie who has very oily skin, complete opposite of me, also does it daily and was so surprised at how effective it was for her skin type and how it helped her achieve beautiful, blemish free skin that was not greasy. Of course, please give your skin a few days to adjust but I’m pretty confident this will be a game changer for you just like it has been for me.

Anything we put on our skin, whether face or body, gets absorbed into our system and blood stream in about 26 seconds. ANYTHING. This totally freaked me out when I recently read an article posted in my feed and it made me want to throw away all of my beauty products. It’s a pretty scary thought and has made me really start to look at the ingredients in the products I’m using. Most brand name products that claim to be natural and organic still full of chemicals, fragrances and preservatives. So unless you’re doing your research you could miss it completely.

My challenge: TRY OIL CLEANSING FOR ONE WEEK. Then comment below your experience and let me know how it goes. Cheers to being naturally beautiful together.

Love, Lashes and Lipstick,

xoxo,
BC
